Liverpool legend and Sky Sports pundit, Jamie Carragher, let a dad and her 14-year-old daughter who are Manchester United fans get under his skin following Liverpool’s 2 – 1 loss at Manchester United on Saturday.
Carragher reacted by spitting in the direction of the father and daughter, prompting his suspension by his employer, Sky Sports.
The former Liverpool player has worked as a pundit and co-commentator for the sports channel for the past few years.
However, Carragher has now been suspended and on the verge of losing his job after footage emerged of him aiming a mouthful of saliva at the passenger window of a car containing the 14-year-old and her dad.
Since video of the incident went viral, Sky Sports issued a statement saying: “Sky takes this matter extremely seriously and strongly condemns Jamie’s actions, we have made that clear to him in person today and suspended him from his duties. It falls well below the standards we expect of our people.”
Speaking to Sky News, the ex-Liverpool defender called it “a moment of madness”.
Carragher, who called the family on Sunday, said his “biggest regret was that a young girl who wasn’t involved was caught up in the incident.”
