Liverpool might not recognise the Manchester City team they beat 4 – 3 in an Anfield thriller … for two big reasons – Vincent Kompany and David Silva.
The Blues suffered their only league defeat of a brilliant season in January as 10 minutes of madness saw them concede three goals – and a stirring late comeback was not enough to grab a point.
But there should be two faces in the City team for the Champions League clash who were missing from that epic encounter, and who make all the difference.
Kompany was out with a calf strain, but has since returned to establish himself as first choice alongside Nicolas Otamendi.
Errors from Otamendi and John Stones, as well as goalkeeper Ederson, handed Liverpool their three-goal blast, and Kompany will be seeking to shore up the City defence.
But the biggest difference should be Silva, who was left on the bench in that game, as his baby son was still seriously ill in Spain.
Many people have Silva down as their City player of the season, and he gives City control and purpose in the final third.
